Microsoft’s upcoming mobile OS will fix plenty of the problems of the present version. Even though Windows Mobile 6.5 is available on many mobile handsets, it is still proving to be disappointing. Windows Phone modders have recently seen some unofficial builds that have offered more changes to the feel and look of the OS. The annoying “X” from the top right of the mobile screen has been lowered to the bottom toolbar.
In these versions, the entire top toolbar has become thinner and has enough space for numerous icons displaying Bluetooth, battery life, time and Wi-Fi. Also, at the top of the programs, arrows have been implanted instead of using tabs, making it more user-friendly in its appearance.
The update for Windows Mobile 6.5.1 is available via XDA-developers forums. However, this update is not targeted for consumers but for developers who are aware of what they are doing. It is still interesting to know that Microsoft chose to roll out Windows Mobile 6.5 as a small upgrade to its earlier incarnations, instead of employing newer updates that are expected to make their appearance soon. It will probably be available some time in January. Due to the advanced features that these smartphones and PDAs offer, their popularity is presently on the rise.
