A smartphone is basically a hand-held mobile device that shares the features of both a personal digital assistant (PDA) and a mobile phone. Due to the numerous functions and features that smartphones boast, they have become extremely popular within the past few years.

The primary function of a mobile phone is to help people communicate with others. Using a mobile phone, one can easily be in contact with others from anywhere in the world. This is truly one of the biggest advantages that mobile phones offer. In the past, mobile phones were only capable of making and receiving calls. Later on, text messaging functionality was also added to mobile phones.

With several improvements in the technology, mobile phones are now capable of doing more than simply making and receiving calls. Smartphones have given new life to mobile computing technology. They boast plenty of useful features like a large touchscreen display, QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, high-resolution cameras and a lot more.

Most smartphones now feature a built-in global positioning system (GPS). The availability of GPS systems in smartphones helps users to determine their current location. Moreover, users can even find routes to a particular place with integrated Google Maps software. Most smartphones also feature 3G and HSDPA connectivity. With the help of 3G, users can not only make video calls, but also surf the internet and download files at a faster speed. Due to the above advantages that smartphones offer, they are preferred by many business professionals.
