Microsoft’s entertainment and devices division president, Robbie Bach, said that it had been a challenging year for Windows Mobile. However, things were set to get better soon after the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5. He said to analysts during the current financial briefing that, Windows Mobile 6.5 devices will provide a rich browsing experience to the users.
It will provide more access to websites than an iPhone and will also provide a much better experience. Microsoft was hoping to roll out Windows Mobile 7, called Windows Phone by the year end. However, that operating system seems to be delayed till early next year. Till then, Windows Mobile 6.5 will act as a stopgap which resolves some usability issues and bugs with Windows Mobile 6.
Microsoft had recently announced that it was accepting submission of applications for Windows Marketplace, Microsoft’s version of Apple’s iTunes App Store. The company said that it would provide ‘clear guidelines” about the type of programs and software that it would and would not consider for addition in its Marketplace. It would also focus on delivering an outstanding customer service for both end-users and developers.
