Windows Mobile users in Europe will not now get to experience this unusually-shaped Kin mobile as Microsoft has declared it is to put all efforts into its upcoming revolutionary device instead.
Following its poor performance in the US the writing was already on the wall for the Kin, which had been rumoured to be set for a UK release in the autumn, and so the technology giant has moved quickly to declare its thrust towards the Windows Phone 7.
This complete overhaul of Microsoft’s mobile operating system is already highly anticipated in the UK as well as Europe, so the news will appease those looking to get this extraordinary device when it comes out, hopefully later this year.
Microsoft broke the news in a statement to CNet News:
“We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned… Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones.”
Microsoft’s mobile strategy is now geared towards the Windows Phone as it hopes to gain a big market share in the smartphone arena, taking on Apple, Google and RIM in the process.
