It seems that Microsoft Corp will be banking on its active Windows Mobile version 6.5 for a major portion of the upcoming year. It is reported that the company is pushing back the launch date of its next innovation, Windows Mobile 7 till the last quarter of 2010. Initially scheduled for 2008 release, the mobile operating system was delayed till 2009, which was then followed by another delay till early 2010, and finally it has been delayed until the last quarter of 2010.
Addressing the Q&A session in London at the technology summit named Connect, Microsoft UK’s mobility chief Phil Moore said that the mobile operating system will not be available prior to the final quarter of 2010.
Moore also said that while the release of Windows Mobile 7 has been put back until the end of next year, it is definitely coming. He added that there is a lot more to be seen from Windows Mobile 7, with the new OS offering consumers and enterprise users everything they need.
The further hold-up in the launch of the next version of the Windows Mobile OS could possibly make the environment a bit more risky for the Redmond-based giant, especially owing to the popularity of Google-owned Android and Apple’s iPhone OS.
