In the past, basic mobile phones were only capable of making and receiving calls. However, over a period of time, the importance of high-end features and applications was felt. Initially PDAs or Personal Digital Assistants were available. They were essentially smartphones without capabilities of making or receiving calls. As technology progressed, mobile phone functionality was added to the PDAs.

Symbian OS, Palm OS, Apple’s iPhone OS, Windows Mobile OS, Google’s Android OS are a few popular mobile phone operating systems that present smartphones boast.

These days, most smartphones feature touchscreen displays. Using smartphones, you can access the internet on your mobile phone, send and receive emails, download and view Office files etc. With Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity features, sending and receiving files can be done very easily. Moreover, smartphones also feature an onscreen QWERTY keyboard with which typing is made much more simple. So with the many features that they boast, smartphones are best for people who want to perform their work on the go.
