It is one year now since Google launched its Android OS. The growth of Android has been enormous. The Android OS was launched in 2008 on T- Mobile G1 or HTC Dream mobile. It is now used in seven different devices including four HTC handsets.
The popularity of Android can be gauged by the fact that it has grabbed around 7 percent of the mobile market share in its very first year. About 1 in 14 mobiles incorporate Google’s OS across the globe. This report has been published by AdMob.
The usage of the Android OS has also increased in the smartphone category. About one in ten smartphones in the UK function with the help of Android. This is indeed commendable considering the ever increasing popularity of the Symbian platform.
Google is confident about the success of Android and are optimistic that it will occupy the number two spot in the OS segment by the year 2012. Its market share according to Google will be around 18 per cent.
Google is also expanding its reach to the netbooks and e-books category. Android’s open access feature along with its user friendly nature is suitable for surfing the mobile web. Android OS has definitely revolutionised the entire ‘mobile working and functioning’ aspect.
