Gone are the days when consumers used to opt for simple mobile phones equipped with just a few features. High-end phones like the smartphone have replaced these basic phones to a certain extent. The following are some of the features of smartphones which have contributed to their popularity.

Features of Smartphones

Smartphones are basically mobile phones but possess more advanced features. They have functionalities similar to a PC and can be described as the convergence of a PC and mobile handset. Smartphones can be described in many different ways. For instance, some people view smartphones as a phone which functions on operating system software. On the other hand, some consumers feel that smartphone is a phone that is endowed with a standardised interface and distinct platform for application developers.

These sleek high-end phones were launched in the early 2000s and are thus considered as a pioneer as far as features like e-mail and the internet is considered. Some of the other functions included in smartphones are as follows:

  • Qwerty keyboard
  • Wi-Fi
  • External USB keyboard
  • VGA connector
  • E-book reader functions

Operating Systems used in Smartphones

Several operating systems can be found in smartphones depending on the manufacturer. Symbian OS, Blackberry OS and Android are some of the many operating systems that run on these phones. Another benefit of smartphones is that they can support different types of software. You can also augment the features with a PDA data capture device which facilitates the easy transfer of data from the phone to the computer.

Smartphones can thus be described as one of the superior types of mobile phone in the current scenario.
